Deepika Padukone is an Indian film actress and model. She has established a successful career in Bollywood films and is cited in the media as one of the most popular and attractive Indian celebrities.

Deepika, the daughter of the badminton player Prakash Padukone, was born in Copenhagen and raised in Bangalore. As a teenager she played badminton in national level championships, but left her career in sport to become a fashion model. Padukone soon received offers for films roles, and made her acting debut in 2006 as the titular character of the Kannada film ‘Aishwarya’. Deepika then played dual roles in her first Bollywood release ‘Om Shanti Om’(2007) and won a Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.

Deepika was then seen romantic comedy ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ opposite Ranbir Kapoor and alongside Bipasha Basu and Minissha Lamba. The film performed well at the box office.

In 2009, she was once again seen in a double-role along with Akshay Kumar in ‘Chandni Chowk To China’. Next she was paired with Saif Ali Khan in ‘Love Aaj Kal’. In 2010, she had a total of five release ; Karthik Calling Karthik, Housefull, Lafangey Parindey, Break Ke Baad and Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se.  Deepika was seen in ‘Aarakshan’ and ‘Desi Boyz’ in 2011.

The 2012 box office hit ‘Cocktail’ marked a significant turning point in her career, earning her critical acclaim and Best Actress nominations at several award ceremonies. In 2013, Padukone established herself as a leading actress of Hindi cinema by playing primary roles in the comedies ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani’ and ‘Chennai Express’, both films were highest grossing Bollywood films of all time and won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her performance in the tragic romance ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram Leela’.
